KI

Abbreviation for Komitet informatsii (The Committee of Information of the Council of Ministers of the USSR). Organized in October 1947, the KI briefly integrated foreign and military intelligence. However, from July 1948 until the end of that year, the military intelligence (GRU) unit was gradually reintegrated with the Department of Defense, and the KI was mostly limited to collecting foreign policy information. It ceased to exist in 1951.
